The other day I was flipping through a stack of my past journals, and I came across a page titled The Five Senses. On that page I had listed out five senses and what triggers that came with them. For hearing, it was loud noises, sudden noises, a constant hum at a certain pitch, that made me feel anxious. And reading through each sense got me thinking, what if I were to write them again, but instead of the worst, I put some of the best?
Say for smell, I might put down the scent of jasmine and ylang ylang shampoo that my sister uses, or the smell of lavender picked from my garden, things that gave me peace. I would focus on the better things of life, find what gave me comfort, things I could turn to when I needed a pick-me-up after a stressing day at work.
I want to challenge you to do the same. Grab a pen and some paper, make a list of the five senses, and write down the things that make you enjoy being alive.
Sometimes it’s the simple things that matter most.
